八寶公主 PERFORMANCE / AUDIO-VISUAL / COSTUME
2023–2024
Princess of Eight Treasures reimagines a little-known folktale of a Dutch woman turned Taiwanese goddess,
fusing colonial histories with queer transformation. Across multiple iterations—including an NFT series, a shrine
installation with projected holograms, and a live audio-visual performance—the project acts as a migratory ritual
that shifts mediums while retaining its core mythic energy.
At its heart is a gender-fluid journey that unfolds through drag, movement, and ritual: from soft, nostalgic gestures and Taiwanese folk melodies to a radical rebirth as a male spirit medium. A jockstrap filled with rice is cut open— symbolizing both colonial extraction and the spilling of memory—while AI-generated narration and glitchy video collages conjure fragmented ghosts of trade, history, and longing.
Rather than seeking to retell a fixed myth, the work transforms it into a living space of speculation and embodiment, where personal and ancestral stories dissolve into performance. Over time, the themes and visual language of Princess of Eight Treasures grew into a new project, Acht, which expands this research into collective memory, folklore, and machine logic.
