An extension of the research behind Princess of Eight Treasures, Acht (Dutch for "eight") investigates how collective memory, myth-making, and personal narrative feed on one another within the theater of history. Collaborating with drag and medieval costume designers "The Night Mare Disorder," the project centers on the imagery of a shipwreck—translating Taiwanese religious symbols and saturated color palettes through a Dutch gaze into a haunting spatial installation.
The performance's core script is a wild archival rewrite: an AI-generated text weaves Taiwanese soap operas, fringe rumors, and Dutch ghost stories, anchored by a real historical synchronicity—the 2014 discovery of 17th-century garments from a North Sea shipwreck, the exact year the artist migrated from Taiwan to the Netherlands. Projected as dreamlike animation, the text becomes a manic spoken-word spiral performed live on stage.
As the auto-ethnography unfolds, the Princess's monologue shifts language with each colonial era—Dutch, Japanese, Mandarin—each historical layer speaking in its own tongue. Realizing the legendary Princess never actually existed, the artist descends into madness and triggers a live shamanic trance—revealing the ultimate truth: the displaced goddess is a mere projection of the artist themself. In a gripping climax, the artist sings a rewritten Dutch national anthem in Mandarin, crying out to "go home" while flaying this collective illusion of history and speech with their bare hands, confronting an absolute void born of pure projection and non-existence.
