A(b)Normal Day explores how everyday anti-Asian racism is experienced and carried in the body. Initiated by Echo Wang, the project brings together interviews with people of East and Southeast Asian backgrounds living in the Netherlands, collective workshops and an essay film in development.

As part of the research, Somatic Traces brought participants together for four workshops at KABRA in Amsterdam in June 2026. Through movement and bodily expression, the sessions offered space to explore experiences that can be difficult to put into words.

A(B)NORMAL DAY is a short essay film exploring how everyday anti-Asian racism is experienced and carried by East and Southeast Asian people in the Netherlands. It draws on interviews and embodied explorations developed through the Somatic Traces workshops.
As the project develops, its focus has become increasingly practical: how can these experiences be shared in the form of an essay film, and what do participants want to make visible or keep private? Working with voice, sound and moving image, the film explores ways to create space for recognition and reflection without requiring participants to re-enact what happened.
